After a busy day at work, we all look forward to getting home and eating a home cooked meal for dinner. This will be ideally followed by a period of time relaxing and unwinding with our loved one, ready for a good night's sleep.
This, however, is often when the problems start, as most people suffer from sleep disturbance at some time throughout their life. As an alternative to counting sheep, there are a number of natural remedies available to aid a good night's sleep. This would include turning to a range of herbs , many of which can be grown in your own garden.
Lavender is perhaps the most commonly used herb to aid sleep. Lavender is best used as a remedy by first drying the flowers, then placing them into a muslin bag. This can then be popped into your pillowcase, where the aroma will have a calming effect, so aiding relaxation, followed by slumber.
Dried Camomile is another herb with a calming aroma which can also be dried and placed under your pillow. Alternatively Camomile is commonly used as a tea drink, best consumed thirty minutes or so before retiring to bed.
Chamomile tea is easily made by mixing dried Camomile flowers with lemon juice, honey and boiling water. This makes a tasty drink to enjoy after a busy day and a healthier alternative to alcohol.
